Dog Play Pen Important Details

Having dogs as your pets requires them to be trained in behaving properly specially during their stage as a puppy. They are animals that are very curious which could lead to hurting themselves or damaging your gadgets, furniture and appliances while exploring. This will be a problem during times you have to go for work or something else.

Puppies also have an instinct to look for the presence of others including other dogs and people such as yourself. They seek anything that moves to make themselves feel safe and amused but this instinct must be removed in their brain. This can be done by using a dog play pen to let them learn to have some alone time for relaxation and sleep.

This could be used also to keep your dog and all your things safe from the other when going out or busy enough at home and unable to supervise them. These may not always be used though having them when needed is convenient. Several factors should be considered in order to choose the best one for your pet.

Having enough space is first which must have room enough for them to stretch, grow and walk around. The fake grass or training pad used as their toilet should not be placed too close to the bed area so it is important to have enough space. This would depend also on the breed with bigger spaces needed for bigger dogs to grow.

Another thing to be considered is the construction materials which are usually either metallic or plastic. Metallic pens are better for larger dogs and though it is prone to rust, it may last longer. Plastic pens are for smaller pets and during times when you have to leave it outside with a possibility of getting wet from the rain causing to have molds and rust.

Another consideration is their safety which means that the playpens must be steady, panels locked together, secure gate and attached firmly to the ground. This is important because dogs may try to escape by climbing or pushing it. There would be a chance of the panels falling down if the pen was not built for safety.

Introduce the playpen to your puppy as early as their first few weeks for them to get used in being inside it. Older dogs require little more work in encouraging them to get them inside and remain calm while there. Do this by starting gradually with you being in the room together with them then not being inside there with gradual increment of the duration.

Giving them toys and treats will help them stay inside specially for stubborn ones but treats must not be abused to let them do anything you want. Toys could be placed inside always and adding a new one helps when leave for a longer time than usual. These things will help them entertain themselves while you are away.

Do not make playpens as prison by forcing them inside or punishing them with it for bad behavior. It would be associated with bad experience which you do not like to happen. Give them time to make themselves want to go inside.
