There is no substitute to a safe kind of living where we feel secure inside the comfort of our homes. This is one reason why modern methods are now employed to provide and added security to different individuals. Sadly, these things are not foolproof. Meaning, they are not absolute solutions.

One of the most popular example is a natural calamity. This can come in a form of a hurricane, earthquake, volcanic eruption, and many more. No matter how well we built up the structures of our home to keep us away from direct contact on these disasters, a significant strength coming from nature has the potential of destroying anything. This is why having a family survival kit at all cost is important. When packing your own, be sure that you have the following on board.

Water. The most ideal ones will be those bottled or gallon water that can be stashed away for long with minimal risk of contamination. The larger your family is, the more bottles you will need. This is vital to make sure that you stay sane by not getting dehydrated. All bad things start to happen once your body starts to feel the strain of a minimal water supply lesser than what it needs.

Foods that are non perishable and easy to prepare. After water, you should take some time to pack up some foods that you may keep within days. Those ready to eat ones are better since you may not have ample of resource to do some cooking and even heating. Chocolate bars and canned goods are among the most popular selection.

First aid kit. The risk of getting involved in any accidents or getting some kind of sickness during a calamity is high. Preparing a kit containing the basic necessities for any medication is important. In an event where you acquire a fever or some sort of headache for instance, having some medicines on board can be a good thing.

Lighting items with extra batteries. Be reminded that calamities can cause electricity to fail. This means that you will also not have access to lights. Battery powered flash lights are good materials for providing this light. Needless to say, you should couple it with batteries as well. You do not know when electrical supply will come back. Better stash enough items beforehand.

Radios and communication tools. Even if electricity is out. You still have some window time to contact people out of the affected area when the calamity strikes. Charge your phone fully. If you have some portable radio devices for field communication, then better.

Comforters or blankets. This will surely keep you warm. In case you need to evacuate, its best if you have something that can keep you warm from your stay out. Choose those that are comfortable against your skin.

No one is in direct control in terms of any natural disaster. It will happen when it happens and the least that we can do is to have a kit containing basic necessary items that we can carry anywhere. Start securing all those needed materials as early as now.
